DECAP CHRONICLES: circa 2060 AD

It has been forty years since the conversion of Clarence into a decap. Clarence's decap brain was interconnected to a humanoild through a computer interface called Consciousness. Over the period, Consciousness developed into a thinking machine with an independent personality whose genesis was Clarence thought processes. Consciousness was given its own humanoid that was its physical presence among humans. Because of the intimate connection between Clarence's brain and the computer Consciousness, the two humanoids often finnished each other's sentences at meetings and communicated directly, brain to computer.

Professor Caimet worked at the computing center of the university campus in Florida that sprawled a research park interspersed with academic buildings. He negotiated rain puddles as he crossed the quadrangle to his office. He was the brainchild of translating the ideas of String Theory into the realms of human consciousness in the year 2060AD. The basis of the theory was simultaneous coexistence in multidimensional planes of reality.

A massive array of conjure-computers maintained the realms along with several thousand person-agents worldwide. The computers translated the thoughts of human avatars immersed in the conjure realms into things. The agents maintained the coherence of conjure creations in the virtual realms. They were a link between the automation of the conjure machines in the virtual realms and the plane of reality as perceived by human avatars.

String Theory gained acceptance circa the 21st century as an explanation of the quantum world of atoms and the cosmic world of galaxies. Scientists conducted experiments that confirmed the existence of sixth and seventh dimensions that coexisted with the three dimensions of space, fourth dimension of mass and fifth dimension of time. Subsequently, they discovered as many as twelve dimensions, verifying the potential to exist simultaneously in eight realms. String Theory had earlier postulated that as many as ten to twenty dimensions existed. Scientists seek to develop a universe that mimicked their observations of the atomic world into everyday life. The conjure world of virtual reality was ideally suited for this task.

Computer multitasking used the process of time division multiplexing for over a century by 2100. The method divided processing time into small intervals and assigned a sub-task to each interval. The net result was several tasks being performed "simultaneously". This was the concept behind existence in a multidimensional universe. In the String realm, the conjure machines divided the consciousness of the participants into several levels according to the dimension of reality.

Everything in the universe exists in the five dimensions of space, time and mass. The decap's brain presence in this realm was in the central life support system. The door to a decap consciousness had to pass through this realm. In order to enter the sixth and seventh dimensions, Clarence consciousness in the fifth dimension had to be partitioned into three segments. In the world of quantum mechanics, String Theory postulates that matter comes in and out of existence every one millionth of a billionth of a second. It is as if matter just disappeared into another plane of existence. In a sense, our universe disappears and returns at a very fast rate and only our consciousness sustains existence.

The task of transforming a decap into three other dimensions therefore required dividing the consciousness of the decap into three parts. Every 10 thousandth of a second, the decap consciousness was switched from one plane of existence to another in the conjure world. The engineering behind the process was simple to develop a triple redundant network of sensors that fed into the decap's sensory system. The decap simultaneously controlled three humanoids and essentially lived three lives during the time we lived one life.

Clarence venture into this world was like a newborn child. Accustomed to being conscious in the singular, he now had to multi task at every level. This took some getting used to. The level of his brain activity increased threefold. The decap environment for his brain was well suited to supporting such activities. The system increased supplies of nutrients and increased the rate of waste by-products removal from his brain. The structure of Clarence brain changed with time. As the brain of a multilingual person mastered several languages at once, Clarence brain structure showed signs of partitioning its neural networks into three "experience" areas along with each of the dimensions of existence. Each experience was like a separate language learnt. Yet Clarence collective conscious was that of a linguist; a master of all his "subconscious" states.

Clarence's eight dimension resided somewhere between 2060AD and 3206AD. Consciousness in this realm constantly shifted in and out of focus; varying its time reference and probabilistic outcomes to support the needs of the tenth dimension and the reality of the fifth.

Several species were near extinction, including the pelican. College campus life too was a rarity.

Universities and other higher learning institutions were indistinguishable from their corporate counterparts. Those that proliferated were nothing more than extensions of R&D patents of yesteryear.

Dr Caimet's campus-life followed the mode of other campuses. A diminished population growth rate proved less taxing on the demands for economic expansion. What growth existed was within the recycling industry. The "Make it last," mantra replaced the "New and improved," mantra.

Dr. Caimet designed the dimensions of existence in a hierarchical manner. Each dimension related to the possibilities of outcomes in the previous realm. The rules were simple. When existence on one realm ended, all existence on higher dimensions also ended. All outcomes of existence on higher dimensions were based on possibilities of outcomes on lower planes. This was the preface for the religion of the unified String Theory; once an idea was planted, even if its outcome was not realized, the idea lived on and created its own future.

Clarence's experience in the year 2060AD was in the fifth dimension of reality. He needed a consciousness for the sixth and seventh dimensions for the period between 2060 and 3310AD. According to Dr. Caimet's design, his sixth dimensional life would be based on outcomes from his fifth; his seventh would be based on his sixth. Through extensive research, Dr. Caimet had discovered that Clarence pioneered ideas about copyright sales and distribution and reverse evolution circa 2010. Dr. Caimet projected existence forward to 3310 into the seventh dimension through his conjure-machines in 2060. He needed to bridge the development of reverse evolution and copyright sales and distribution in Clarence mind into the realm of the year 3310. Clarence was the key to creating this outcome of possibilities from the year 2060. Dr. Caimet needed to reverse evoluntionize the year 3310 to the year 2060 to visualize the future of Clarence's ideas. The fifth dimension was the realm circa 2060. The sixth dimension was an intermediate realm between the year 3310 and the year 2060.

Clarence life in the seventh dimension was a paradox of his existence in the fifth dimension. Everything that existed in the seventh was based on events that occurred prior in the sixth and fifth. Yet, Clarence was experiencing all three dimensions in the year 2060 through the simultaneous dimensions of the String realms. In the seventh realm, events that were about to happen in the previous dimensions had already happened. Experiences in the fifth and sixth dimensions were history to the seventh realm.

In the year 2010, there were no conjure machines. Reverse evolution was only a gleam in Clarence's imagination. The future of digital copyrights seemed dim due to piracy. Yet all of these prerequisites were essential for the foundation of String realms in the year 2060. Dr. Caimet wished to determine under what conditions the future digital sales would exist to support his conjure realms.

The foundation of Dr. Caimet's realms in the year 2060 was the person agents developed by Clarence in 2010. The agents were essentially human contacts over the Internet that provided input to the ideas needed to envision the String realms of the conjure world. These human agents were an integral part of computer applications that were developed and provided computerized intelligence where computers proved inadequate. Their assistance proved invaluable in the research and synthesis of new knowledge, expanding the knowledgebase of intent. The intent in 2010 was the creation of secure digital sales. The future success of the String realms and conjure machines depended on a secure digital transactions processing system.
